What is Read Aloud? v2.2.0+

Read Aloud lets a child listen to an eligible Daily Hoots story. Stories may use cached Daily Hoots narration or the voice installed on the device. Look for the speaker button on the story page.

Read Aloud was introduced in Daily Hoots 2.2.0. Its availability can also depend on the story, plan, and current feature settings.

Why does the Read Aloud voice sometimes sound different?

In Daily Hoots 2.2.0 or later, some Trending stories use prepared Daily Hoots narration. If that narration is unavailable or cannot play, the app may use your phone or tablet's built-in voice so listening can continue. This voice may sound more robotic or distorted depending on the device, language, and installed voice options.

Why can I not hear Read Aloud on an iPhone or iPad?

First check that Silent Mode is off and raise the media volume while narration is active. Apple's device voice may remain silent when the mute switch or Silent Mode is on. Read Aloud requires Daily Hoots 2.2.0 or later.

Why does a story not have a speaker button?

In Daily Hoots 2.2.0, Read Aloud is available for Trending stories. Open a story from the Trending section and look for the speaker button on the story page.

What is the difference between Free and Family?

Free provides a smaller daily selection and one Hootling profile. Family expands story access and supports up to six Hootlings. The app's plan screen shows the current limits and included features, which may change as Daily Hoots improves.

How do Family subscriptions work? v2.1.0+

In-app Family subscriptions require Daily Hoots 2.1.0 or later. Purchases and renewals are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play. Use the same store account when restoring a purchase, and manage or cancel renewal in that store's subscription settings.

How does a Family Pass reward work?

Hootlings in the same registered family can contribute through reading, quizzes, and badges. A qualifying reward can temporarily unlock Family access. Only one Family Pass is active at a time; the app shows its current status and expiry.

What is Guest access?

Guest access offers a quick, limited way to try Daily Hoots without an email account. A registered parent account is better for signing in on another device, account recovery, subscriptions, and long-term family use.

Why do different Hootlings see different stories?

When parent or guardian personalization is enabled, Daily Hoots can use a Hootling's age group and selected countries to prepare an appropriate story selection. Limited Global mode uses the youngest-reader version and does not use child profile details for personalization.

How is my family's information used?

Daily Hoots uses account and profile information to operate the app and, where permission is given, personalize content and rewards. We do not sell personal information. Read the Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I delete an account?

A parent can request deletion in the app or follow the steps on the Account Deletion page. Deleting a Daily Hoots account does not automatically cancel an Apple or Google subscription; manage that separately through the relevant store.
